* Francis Donald "Don" Draper (Jon Hamm): Creative Director and possible junior partner of Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency, Draper is the protagonist of the series. His past is dark, but has achieved success in the agency. He is married to Elizabeth "Betty" Draper and has three children, but has a history of infidelity. Draper real name is Dick Whitman, who assumed the identity the real Don Draper, during the Korean War.
* Margaret "Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss): Olson rises from Draper's secretary to an editor with its own office. [20] She unknowingly becomes pregnant with the son of Pete Campbell, is said to have suffered a mental breakdown after the unexpected birth because she was unaware of her pregnancy, and gives the baby up for adoption.
* Peter Dyckman Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser): An ambitious young account executive privileged surroundings. Campbell tries to blackmail Don Draper with information from past Draper. [19] He and his wife are unable to conceive a child, and he remains aware of his son with Olson until the end of the second season.
* Elizabeth "Betty" Draper (nee Hofstadt) (January Jones): A former model and wife of Don Draper and the mother of his three children, Sally, Bobby and Eugene Scott. Gradually she realizes her philandering husband during the first two seasons. After a brief separation, Betty allows Don to return home after to discover she is pregnant with her third child, but not before a date for your account.

A photo in the office of Cooper, Roger shows up as a child along with Cooper represented as a young adult. In the same scene [episode needed], Cooper refers to the image and calls Roger "Peanut," which indicates that his is a friendship (maybe even the family relationship) extending for many decades. In Season 2, Bertram Cooper mentions that "Mrs. Cooper late Sterling introduced his wife, Mona, who is Sterling going through a divorce in favor of Don's former secretary, 22-year-old Jane. Sister Bertram Cooper, Alice Cooper, Sterling watched as a kid. Sterling served in the Navy and was a notorious womanizer (who lives as if "on shore leave"), until two heart attacks changed his outlook, at least for a while. Heart attack did not affect their smoking or drinking, which is still excessive. It maintains considerable affection by both the Sterling Cooper employees (with whom has much more contact Bert Cooper) and his family. In 1962, Sterling has returned to work and is falling into their old habits.
